In 1991, the first West Marine stores opened in the East Coast of the United States in Miami and Annapolis and in 1993 the company went public on the NASDAQ exchange (symbol WMAR). West Marine, the largest specialty retailer of boating supplies and accessories, has 315 company-operated stores located in 38 states, Puerto Rico and Canada and three franchised stores located in Turkey.
